Transfers at Sun Island Resort (Villa Park Sun Island)

Transfer logistics are well-organized overall with convenient seaplane options, but significant issues plague booking communications, late flight notifications, and operational reliability. Expect unpredictability with departures announced only one day in advance and occasional cancellations.

MixedStrong evidence·based on 17 reviews

All claims date from June–August 2026. No significant temporal improvement or decline detected within this window. Communication and logistical issues appear consistently across the entire timeframe, suggesting ongoing structural problems rather than transient operational glitches.

Well-designed logistics with multiple transfer options (seaplanes, domestic flights, speedboats, catamarans) and complimentary upgrades to seaplane transfers offered to some guests

Departure times announced only one day in advance, creating poor predictability for guest schedules and return flights notified very late with extreme early wake times (4–5 AM)

Significant communication failures causing missed flights, conflicting information, and chaotic arrival experiences where guests were booked for different flights than communicated

Travel duration is reasonable—30–40 minutes by air plus several minutes by boat—with total journey time complicated by processing delays and advance waiting periods

Mandatory transfer costs of $500–600 are substantial; flight cancellations and seasickness risk on boat legs noted by some guests

Upgrade frequency and quality of communication vary by reviewer profile

Multiple guests (primarily from Russia and Spain) report receiving complimentary seaplane upgrades and praising the transfer experience as memorable and convenient (Claims 428051, 425925, 425968, 428358, 440789). However, these positive experiences coexist with systematic operational issues reported by other guests: chaotic communication, missed flights, and late notifications. It is unclear whether upgrade recipients experienced better service overall or whether the upgrade itself masked underlying problems. Additionally, Russian-speaking reviewers (5 claims) consistently emphasize boat motion risk and the need for medication, while Western reviewers focus on logistical coordination failures. This suggests either differing expectations or that Russian guests face more boat-heavy transfer routes.

The day before our trip to the resort, we received some automated email saying our flight is at 8am. I immediately called the resort to solve this and they assured me it's solve and that our seaplane flight will be at 5pm. The next day we arrive at 3 pm and at the gate they told us that we missed our flight because we were booked for 10 am with a domestic flight instead of a sea plane
